THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MODERNIZATION AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Modernization and National Development are two terms that are often used interchangeably by many scholars but the fact remains that though they are closely tied together, they are still two phenomena that are very distinguishable.

Modernization theory tends to describe and explain the process of transformation from traditional or underdeveloped societies to modern societies. In other words, it is seen as the process of change towards those types of factors; social, economic and political that have developed the entire human society through the ancient days.

National Development in its analysis implies economic growth, but not necessarily through transformation from the predominance of primary production to manufacturing, and not necessarily as characterized by modernization theory. The major relationship that exists between the two phenomena is that both are concerned with the growth of the economy, the removal of the shackles of pre-modernity and underdevelopment of the ancient societies of the world.

Modernization and National Development provide the basic instrument for the study of each other. Modernization theorists study the social, political and cultural consequences of National Development and the conditions that are necessary for industrialization and National Development to occur. Modernization specifies the particular content and processes of societal changes in the course of National Development.

Modernization theory has been one of the major perspectives in the sociology of National Development in the recent years. Primary attention has been shifted to the ways in which past and the present pre-modern societies become modern through processes of National Development and change in social, political and cultural structures. In general, modernization theorists are concerned with National Development within societies as indicated by measures of gross national product. Mechanization or industrialization are the ingredients in the process of National Development. Modernization is narrower as it tends to be more specific in scope but development is more general. For instance, modernization theorists see National Development mainly as the economic output per capita but other theorists see it as the development of autonomous productive capacity, equitable distributions of wealth or meeting the basic human needs. Both modernization and National Development pay particular attention to the determinants of modern structures within social, political, economic and give greater importance to structures or institutions within their realm for explaining other development in society.

Sociological modernization theory lays major implicit or explicit tenets that are also undergone in National Development; (1) societies develop through a series of evolutionary stages (2) these stages are based on different degrees and patterns of social differentiation and re-integration of structural and cultural components that are functionally compatible for the maintenance of society; (3) contemporary developing societies are at a pre-modern stage of evolution and they eventually will achieve National Development and will take on the social, political and economic features of the developed societies which have progressed to the highest stage in social evolutionary development; (4) this modernization which result as complex western technology is imported and traditionally structured and cultural features incompatible with such development are overcome.

Modernization theory at its core suggests that advanced industrial technology produces not only National Development in developing societies but also other structures and cultural changes. The common characteristics that societies tend to develop as they become modern may differ, but in general, all assume that institutional structures and individual activities become more highly specialized, differentiated and integrated into social, political and economic forms characteristics of advanced western societies.

For example, in the social sphere, modern societies are characterized by high levels of urbanization, literacy, research, health care, secularization, bureaucracy, mass media and transportation facilities. Kinship ties are weaker, and nuclear conjugal family systems prevail. Birth rate and death rates are lower, and life expectancy is relatively longer. In the political sphere, the society becomes more participatory in decision-making processes and typical institutions include universal suffrage, political parties, a civil service bureaucracy, and parliaments. Traditional sources of authority are weaker as bureaucracy institutions assume responsibility and power.
In economic sphere, there is more industrialization, technical upgrading of production, replacement of exchange economies with extensive money market, increased division of labour, growth of infrastructure and commercial facilities and the development of large-scale markets.
Associated with these structural changes are cultural changes in relations and personality varieties. Social relations are more bureaucratic, social mobility increases, and status relations are based on such ascriptive as age, gender or ethnicity and more on meritocratic criteria. There is a shift from relations based on tradition and loyalty to those based on rational exchange, competence, and other universally applied criteria.
People are more receptive to change; more interested in the future, more achievement-oriented, more concerned with the rights of individual, and less fatalistic. Underlying the description of social features and changes that are thought to characterize modern urban industrial societies are theoretical assumptions and mechanisms to explain the shift from traditional to modern societal types. These explanatory systems draw upon the dominant theoretical perspective in the 1950s and 1960s, growing out of classical evolutionary, diffusion and structural functionalist theories.

The evolutionary perspective, stemming from the nineteenth-century theorists, contributed the motion that societies evolve from lower to higher forms and progress from simple and undifferentiated to more complex types. Western industrial society is seen as superior to pre-industrial society to the extent that it has progressed through specialization to more effective ways of performing societal functions. Diffusionists added the idea that cultural patterns associated with modern society could be transferred through social interaction such as war, trade, travellers, media, etc., and that there may be several paths to development rather than linear evolution. Structural functionalists (Parsons 1951; Hoselitz 1960 etc) emphasized the idea that societies are integrated wholes composed of functionally compatible institutions and roles and that societies progress from one increasingly complex and efficient social system to another. This contributed to the motion that internal social and cultural factors are important determinants or obstacles of economic change.
Research by Smelser (1969) draws on all three traditions in describing modernization of society through processes of social differentiation, disturbances and reintegration. In a manner similar to other conceptions of modernization, Smelser emphasizes four major changes: from simple to complex technology, from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture, from rural to urban population, and, most importantly, from animal and human power to inanimate power and industrialization. Parson’s later theoretical work (1964) also combines these perspectives in a neo-evolutionist modernization theory that treats societies as self regulated structural functional wholes in which the main processes of change are social differentiation and the discovery of certain “evolutionary” universals such as bureaucratic organisation and money markets. These, in turn, increase the adaptive capacity of the society by providing more efficient social arrangements and often lead to a system of universalistic norms, which, more than the industrial revolution itself, ushered in the modern era of social evolution.

Lerner’s (1958) empirical studies in several Middle Eastern societies identified empathy, the capacity to take the perspective of others, as a product of media, literacy, and urbanization and as a vital ingredient in producing rational individual behaviour conducive to societal development. McClelland (1961) felt that prevalence of individual with the psychological trait of high “need for achievement” was the key to entrepreneurial activity and modernization of society. In a similar vein, Inkeles and Smith (1974) used interview data from six societies to generate a set personality traits by which they defined “modern man”. They felt that the prevalence of individual modernity in society was determined by such factors as education and factory experience and that individual modernity contributed to the modernization of society.

Finally, Rostow’s (1960) well-known theory of the stages of National Development, which he derived from studying Western economic development, emphasized the importance of new values and ideas favouring economic progress along with education, entrepreneurship, and certain other institutions as conditions for societies to “take off” into self-sustained National Development. All these versions of modernization theory depict a gradual and more or less natural transition from “traditional” societal structures to “modern” social structures characteristics of Western European and North American societies. More specifically, these theories tend to share to one degree or another the views that: (1) modern people, values, institutions, and societies are similar to those found in the industrialized West, that is, the direction of change tends to replicate that which had already occurred in Western industrial societies (2) tradition is opposite to and incompatible with modernity (3) the causes of delayed economic and social development (I.e. underdevelopment) are to be found within the traditional society (4) the mechanisms of National Development also come primarily from within societies rather than from factors outside of the society and (5) these internal factors (in addition to industrial development) tend to involve social structures, cultural institutions or personality types.
In keeping with this orientation, empirical studies of sociological modernization tend to deal with the internal effects of industrialization or other economic developments on traditional social institutions or with the social, political, and cultural conditions that facilitate or impede economic growth within traditional or less-developed societies. Examples might include research on the impact of factory production and employment or traditional family relations or the effects of an indigenous land tenure system on the introduction of cash crop farming in society.

Attention to modernization theory in sociology has declined as a result of the theoretical and empirical weakness raised especially during the 1970s. Nevertheless, it is still the dominant perspective among government officials and international agencies concerned with third world development. Hoogvelt has noted its influence on development policies as follows: Because modernization theories have viewed the total transformation, that is westernization, of developing countries to be an inescapable outcome of successful diffusion of the western economic/technological complex, by methodological reversal, it is argued that a reorganization of existing social and cultural as well as political patterns in anticipation of their compatibility with the diffused western economic/technological complex may in fact facilitate the very process of this diffusion itself. This monumental theoretical error-which to be faire was not always committed by the theorists themselves-has in fact been made and continues to be made by modernization policy-makers such as those employed by western government, U.N organisations, the World Bank, and so forth. Thus, various indicators of social, political and cultural development (such as degree of urbanization, high literacy rates, political democracy, free enterprise, secularization, birth control, etc.) have frequently been promoted as “conditions” for National Development. Interestingly, as modern structures and institutions have spread around the world and created economic, political, social and cultural linkages, awareness of global interdependence and of the ecological consequences of industrial development and modern lifestyles has grown. It is now clear that finite natural resources and the nature of the global ecosystem could not sustain worldwide modern conditions and practices of European and North American societies even if modernization theory assumptions of evolutionary National Development were correct. Thus, new visions and interpretations of national and global development have already begun to replace classical modernization theory.

In conclusion, it is obvious that both concepts (Modernization and National Development) provide the basic ingredients for measuring each other. The theories laid down by modernization theorists provide the yardstick for studying and determining the rate of national development in any society. They are both related, in that no one can be studied in isolation and both share a common characteristic of urban life.

Airtel seeks to break communication barriers with TVC Nigeria

Airtel Africa has launched a thematic television ad that transcends physical and emotional barriers, focusing instead on breaking down communication barriers.

The television commercial – aptly named ‘Breaking Barriers’ – digs deeper into the need and use of communications across various cultures in the world. To signal the brand’s diversity and boldness, Airtel has used the antics of two young boys as symbols of minds free of prejudice, with their innocence depicted in stark contrast to the desolate landscape around them. The boys live across from each other, but are separated by a barbed wire fence – likely the border of a neighbouring country.

When one boy spots a football on his side of the fence, he initially hesitates to pass it back to the child – symbolising a potential ‘enemy’ – who is awaiting the football on the other side. After a few words exchanged between the children – each speaking their own language – their innocence prevails when they decide to ignore the fence between them and come together to kick the football around.

Breaking Barriers is more than just a television ad, it is a statement,” explains Andre Beyers, chief marketing officer, Airtel Africa. “The ad is a visual message that speaks to the innate disposition and longing to communicate without any hang ups that society places on us while showing the profound effects that communication can have on societies at large.”

He adds: “The use of children from different communities demonstrates that communication can be universal. It does not need to be restricted by age, gender, language, race or ethnicity. These are nothing but barriers; barriers that can be broken, when people communicate”.

The TVC, comes seven months after the launch of Airtel’s global identity that unifies its 16 African operations and covers over 220 million subscribers in Africa and Asia. It reinforces Airtel’s commitment to extending its network and bridge the digital divide.

Nigerian Stock Exchange Lagos Nigeria - Free Stock Market information

Nigerian stock exchange Lagos Nigeria - Nigeria stock exchange is among the most active stock market in the world. Millions of dollars are made daily from the stock market. And there are millions more waiting to be made. Where are you in all of this? Grab your share!

Honestly, the Nigeria stock market has confounded many market watchers in Nigeria and the world. Most people do not understand how someone who is near broke today can become a millionaire in just a few months. How does this happen? Is the Nigerian stock market a magical haven?

It's great to ask those questions about the Nigerian stock exchange because it demonstrates that you really want to know.

First, let me assure that there is nothing magical about the Nigerian stock exchange. It's a buying and selling market like any other market. And yes, you can make over a hundred percent return on investment in six months to one year if you pitch your tenth with the right stock and the right company.

I have seen live examples, real people, in Nigeria who have made over a hundred percent return on their stock market investment within eight months.

Over a hundred percent! Incredible about stock exchange in Nigeria!

Yes, it is incredible. In fact, it is almost unbelievable. But it is true.

There are very very few stock exchanges in the world where this can happen. But it's happening in Nigeria! This is the real deal!

A word of caution about stock exchange in Nigeria

Yes, a good number of people have made return on investment of hundred percent and even above in some instances in the Nigeria stock market. But that is not the norm.

Unfortunately, when many Nigerians heard that some of their country men have made a killing from the stock market, they jumped into the market in droves. Some even went to their banks to take huge loans to fund huge investment in stocks. They invested and sat back to reap the expected mind-blowing return on their investment.

Sadly, many folks ran into a huge loss instead. What accounted for this?

There are a number of reasons for loss in stock exchange in Nigeria
# Some invested in a hurry in the wrong stocks
# Some were ill-advised by laymen-turned-experts because they blindly bought stocks that happily gave them good return over the short time they invested
# Some were ill-advised by over-enthusiastic stock brokers who were over-excited by the sudden boom of the Nigerian stock market and
# Some invested without consultation with experienced stock market analysts due to over-optimism and the euphoria of seeing their friends make big money with little work done

The end resul of stock exchange in Nigeriat
Flood of tears as Nigerians and other foreigners who invested in the stock exchange saw their stock crash almost irreversibly.

Bottom line on stock exchange in Nigeria
Many folks ended up in debt because of over-optimism about the potentials of the Nigerian stock market to deliver instant riches. Unfortunately, the huge losses incurred by many, especially short-term investors, has once again slowed down activities in the Nigeria stock market.

But as always, the market will bounce back again when people finish licking their wounds.

The lesson on stock exchange in Nigeria

Don't invest blindly. Talk to experienced investors and experienced Nigerian stock exchange brokers before deciding where to invest. If you invest right, you will reap long-term benefits.

On the bright side of the stock exchange in Nigeria

Many Nigerians have abandoned the Nigerian stock exchange because of the current uncertainties.

Guess what, they have all shifted to investing in Nigeria real estate enmass once again. This is good news for Nigeria real estate agents. Right now, business is good because Nigerians are justling to acquire more properties as their cash flow improve. With each sale comes more commission for the Nigeria real estate agent.

Another lesson.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Spread your investment. Broaden the scope of your investment portfolio. When you do, you spread your risk.

iPhoto editing tips,iPhoto applications usuage

iPhoto:if you are overwhelmed by the sprawling features of Photoshop or another high-powered editing application, iPhoto offers simple yet effective editing tools for amateur photographers. In fact, performing edits in iPhoto can be as simple as pressing a single button. Don't be afraid to get in there and experiment; iPhoto editing is nondestructive, meaning that you can always return a photo to its original, unedited state of iPhoto.

1: Wave the magic wand of iPhoto
The quickest way to fix a photo is to hit the Enhance button. Simply highlight a photo you'd like to edit and click the Edit button in the lower-right corner of iPhoto. It will call up the edit panel to the right of the photo. At the top of the edit panel you'll see three tabs: Quick Fix, Effects, and Adjust. Among the Quick Fix tools for rotating, straightening, cropping, and retouching your photo is the magic Enhance button. Click it and your photo will likely improve on iPhoto.

To get started, highlight a photo and click Edit in the lower-right corner.
If you click on the Adjust tab of iPhoto, you can see which sliders moved. By default, they are set at 0, with the exception of the Saturation slider, which is set at 50. In most cases, I find that Exposure and Saturation get bumped up, along with Shadows occasionally. By taking a look to see how the Enhance tool changes your photos, you can begin to understand the effects of the various sliders and can start manually editing your photos for finer editing control. You can also adjust the sliders after using the Enhance tool to make minor tweaks on iPhoto.

The Enhance button provides one-click editing and does a good job of improving photos. Also, it's just as easy to undo the effects of the Enhance button of iPhoto.

2: Shift to see original
If you aren't sure if the edits you've made to an image have improved it, hold down the shift key to see the original. It allows you to quickly toggle between the original image and the edited version, helping you determine which version looks better. If you don't like the way your edits are going, simple hit the Revert to Original button at the bottom of the edit pane. It's visible from any of the three edit tabs. Next to it is an Undo button, which lets you erase the last edit you performed, keeping any previous tweaks you might have made on iPhoto.

3: Edit in full screen, with multiple photos side by side
The full-screen command isn't just useful when viewing photos; you can also edit in full-screen mode. To view in full screen, click on the Full Screen button in the lower-left corner of iPhoto, or use the keyboard shortcut Command-Option-F. To exit, hit the Full Screen button again or press the Esc key.

You can edit multiple images side by side. Using full-screen mode, pictured here, to do so gives you a larger view of your images in the iPhoto editor environment.

If you have a batch of photos to edit before, say, printing or uploading to an online album, you can edit multiple photos side by side. Highlight two or more photos and then click Edit. All of the photos will be placed side by side in edit mode. I haven't found a way to highlight all of them to perform the same edit simultaneously on a batch of photos, such as the Enhance function, for instance. You can cycle through photos from your library in each spot, however, by pressing the arrow keys.

4:Zoom for greater control
Some edits, such as fixing red eye or retouching blemishes, require greater control. To zoom in on an image, press the 1 key to magnify by 100 percent or the 2 key to magnify by 200 percent. It will zoom in on the part of the image where the cursor is located, and a small navigation window also pops up, letting you easily move to the section of the photo you'd like to touch up.

If you choose to fix red-eye or retouch an image, you'll see a circle that you can move over the trouble spot. You can resize this edit circle with the slider in the edit pane or by using the bracket keys.

5: Protect your skin in iPhoto editor environment
As you gain confidence in making edits in iPhoto, you might find you are using the Enhance button less and using the various sliders on the Adjust tab more. The Saturation slider is a powerful tool; it can really make images pop as you saturate colors. Fans of super-saturated images from iPhoto apps Hipstamatic and Instragram will likely gravitate toward this tool. If you use the Saturation slider, be sure to check the box underneath it, labeled Avoid saturating skin tones. This will keep skin tones more natural looking as you over-saturate a photo, which can help create some unique shots without the person in them appearing radioactive.

Check the Avoid saturating skin tones box to keep skin tones natural while adjusting the saturation of an image.
There you have it, a handful of iPhoto editing tips that should help get you on your way. If you have any iPhoto editing tips or tricks, please let us know in the comments below.

Facebook Offers Video Chat in Arrangement With Skype Applications

Facebook Offers Video Chat in Arrangement With Skype Applications:The new feature allows users a way to connect with friends other than just posting messages,It’s so easy, so minimal to use,the video chat skype.
Last week, Google introduced Google+, its latest and most serious challenge yet in social networking, which includes video chatting for up to 10 people in an area of the site called Hangouts. So far, Google has limited the number of people who can sign up for the networking service.

Facebook is playing catch-up — an unfamiliar position for a company that has grown to 750 million users worldwide,Facebook past its rivals — it had 500 million users a year ago — but now faces questions about why he is following their lead has become rampartin facebook.

The new Facebook service does not allow for group video chats, for example. It is also not available on mobile phones, unlike Skype’s smartphone apps.

Facebook’s new service at least lets the company counter Google’s move with its video chat.video chatting has been widely available for years in a variety of ways, like through instant messaging services, Skype and Apple’s FaceTime.

I didn’t get the impression that people were finding it difficult to find one-to-one video chatting if they wanted to,This potentially makes it easier for more people to get going, but I don’t see it as that hard to begin with.”

To start a video chat on Facebook, users click a button on their Facebook chat list or on a friend’s profile page. A box will then appear on the computer screen of that friend to either accept or decline the call.

Conversations take place inside a window that pops up within the browser. Downloading a plug-in is required to make and receive calls.

Video chatting will be available to all Facebook’s users in the coming weeks. For now, however, users can access it at facebook.com/videocalling.

For Skype, the partnership with Facebook provides a chance to have more visibility beyond its 170 million users. The service is free on Facebook, but Tony Bates, Skype’s chief executive, raised the possibility of eventually making paid calls available to Facebook users.

Making calls from computer to computer through Skype is free. But people who use Skype to call a landline or a mobile phone must pay. Facebook’s alliance with Skype expands an existing partnership between the two companies. Their cooperation started last year when Skype let its users connect with their Facebook friends from Skype and to get news feeds.

Last month, the Skype added a Facebook contacts tab and let Skype users send instant messages to their Facebook friends and comment on their friends’ status — all without leaving the Skype window.

But making Skype available on Facebook is risky and may, in the short term, undermine its business, said Greg Sterling, an analyst at Opus Research.

Facebook’s users will most likely flock to the new video chatting service, he said, while avoiding visiting Skype’s branded service directly.

“Obviously this is a great feature for Facebook — it’s really simple and a lot of people will use it.it’s going to have an adverse impact on Skype.”

Microsoft is closing in on its acquisition of Skype for $8.5 billion. The purchase, announced two months ago, would give Microsoft a bigger footprint in online communications for consumers and corporate customers.

Microsoft, through its Skype acquisition, would also strengthen its ties to Facebook. Microsoft bought a small stake in Facebook in 2007, and it continues to provide search results within Facebook.

During the news conference on Wednesday, Mr. Zuckerberg signaled that the Skype integration was the first of several deals that would add services to Facebook with the help of other companies.

Independent entrepreneurs, or entrepreneurs that focus on one thing, will always do better than a company that tries to focus on a million things,in a comment that could be interpreted either as an acknowledgment of Facebook’s limits, or as a dig at Google for its broad ambitions.

How to import, invite Facebook friends to Google+

Google+:5While you're settling into Google+, you might notice that it's a little lonely without your friends.
Since most of your friends are currently on Facebook (and might not even know about Google+), you'll need to help them make the switch.
Here's how:
Step 1: Log into your Yahoo Mail account. If you don't have one yet, create one. Then, head to the "Contacts" tab in the mail dashboard. Click "Import contacts" and then select the Facebook icon in the next screen. You'll be asked to authorize the connection.
Yahoo will import all your Facebook friends' names and e-mails into your contacts list.
Step 2: Go to Google+, log in, and click "View and edit" in the sidebar on the right (below "in your circles"). In the next window, click "Find and invite." Click "Yahoo," agree to the terms, and watch as Google imports your Yahoo contacts (from Facebook) into Google+.
Step 3: Add all the Facebook friends you want on Google+ into your custom Circles. Then go to the Google+ dashboard, compose a post, and share it with those circles. Make sure to check "Also e-mail * people not yet using Google+".
Upon publishing your post, your friends will be indirectly invited to Google+, a trick we previously mentioned.
Because Facebook doesn't allow third parties to grab users' e-mail addresses, the company will likely continue to shut down apps and extensions like that attempt to do so.
are attempting to bypass Facebook restrictions, but this Yahoo Mail workaround is the only legitimate way to get your Facebook friends onto Google+ (for now).

Starcomms Nigeria Cheap Bulk Internet Packages.

Starcomms Nigeria is a leader in telecommunications and internet services in Nigeria today. Starcomms was the first 3G/CDMA network in Nigeria to signup up to one million subscribers. Starcomms is also the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange NSE.

One area that Starcomms dominance is pronounced is in the provision of innovative and cost effective internet services.
Starcomms now offers hourly internet subscription packages that empower you to browse whenever you want as long as you have valid internet hours. This model is similar to what obtains in cyber cafes.

The great advantage of Starcomms’ hourly internet subscription is that it is friendlier to the pocket and even more convenient than most competing internet plans in the market today.

Before Starcomms hourly internet plan (bulk hours/bundled hours), there was Starcomms always on internet plan, this provided Starcomms subscribers with internet access always (24/7). However, this did not address the need of users that are not too heavy in their use of the World Wide Web, as prices were considered too high for such customers.

Then came two other internet plans. First Starcomms business hour plan was designed for customers who use internet during normal business hours (9am to 9pm). Although it was cheaper than the always on plan, it was not convenient. What if you want to browse at night?

Starcomms night plan allows you to browse at night (9pm to 9am). This is similar to night browsing offered by cyber cafes. However, how many people will be willing to miss their sleep just to stay online at night.

Okay, you go to work and have no time to browse the internet except at night? Well, what about Public Holidays? Starcomms Night internet plan is not convenient and you will discover this on holidays. You stay at home but cannot browse until at night. Starcomms hourly plan is the answer to cheap and convenient internet browsing.

Starcomms bulk internet hour package is a cost effective solution that allows a subscriber to buy a number of hours and browse the internet any time (24/7) within the validity period of their subscription. Two options are available from Starcomms. They are Starcomms 100-hour and Starcomms 250 hour packages.

Starcomms 100-hour bulk hour internet-package

Starcomms 100 hour plan gives you 100 hours of internet access within a 30 days period. Just like in a cyber cafe if you do not use up your time within your 30 days validity period you lose it. Price of this plan is 5,000 Naira on Starcomms One network and 6,500 Naira on Starcomms EVDO network. The difference between Starcomms One and EVolution Data Only (EVDO) is that Starcomms EVDO is faster.

This is even cheaper than Cyber cafe rates as it adds up to 65 Naira or 50 Naira per hour. So if you can use 50 to 100 hours in a month this Starcomms internet plan is very cost effective.

Starcomms 250-hour bulk hour internet-plan

Even a more cost effective plan is the Starcomms 250 hour internet plan. Starcomms 250 hour package allows you to access internet for 250 hours over a validity period of 90 days (3 months).

Starcomms 250-hour internet package costs 10,000 Naira on Starcomms One and 15,000 Naira on Starcomms EVDO. This adds up to 40 Naira/hr or 60 Naira/hr. Starcomms 250-hour internet package is also cost effective for subscribers who do not use the World Wide Web often.

In fact, if you spend 10 hours to 70 hours on the internet monthly, Starcomms 250 hour bulk plan is cost effective and cheaper than cyber cafe prices in Nigeria.

So what are you still waiting for? Grab a Starcomms Bundled hour internet package today.

Starcomms EVDO is available in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Starcomms One is available in Lagos, Onitsha, Kano, Port Harcourt, Aba, Asaba, Ibadan, Kaduna, Zaria and Abuja. The difference between Starcomms One and Starcomms EVDO is that EVDO is faster than CDMAONE. Visit a Starcomms dealer, sales outlet or shop near you.

Prices Starcomms Internet packages:
  • Starcomms 100 bundled hour package - N5,000 (CDMAOne)
  • Starcomms 100 bundled hour package - N6,500 (CDMA EVDO)
  • Starcomms 250 bundled hour package - N10,000 (CDMAOne)
  • Starcomms 250 bundled hour package - N15,000 (CDMA EVDO)
Call Starcomms on 0702-8000-123.

Starcomms offer both fixed wireless and mobile telecommunications services.

Design A Website and Make Money With It

Design A Website and Make Money With It :If you are really serious about making money on the internet, you must get yourself a blog or a website. You can start with free ones and upgrade as time passes by. With a free blog or website, you can easily start making money with Google and even use it for promoting your affiliate links, your e books etc which in turn will be making you some money. As a newbie, am sure you might want to ask "how do I make a website and how do I make money with it?” The answer is pretty simple.

Below is a step by step tutorial on how you can create your own free online website to make money online. Lets get started.

1. Choose Your Web Host
For your website to be accessible by anyone anywhere in the world, you will need a hosting provider also called a web hosting company. There are free ones while there are some who will ask you to pay certain amount before they can help you host your website on the internet. Though, for serious businesses, free website will not make sense but If you are a newbie, START WITH A FREE ONE. After mastering how websites really work you can then go for the paid ones. Have you seen a driving school that uses Hummer Jeep to train people how to drive a car?..Think about it.

A free web host will allow you to create your website completely free using a sub-domain of course. A sub-domain is a domain name in the form of www.YOURNAME.yourwebhostname.com If you pay for your website, obviously, you will be able to get a domain name in the form of www.YOURNAME.com

Below is a couple of free well known hosting providers, which allows you to create your very website completely free.
1. Blogger : a free blogging platform which you can easily set up within 5 minutes.
2. Bravenet : loads of free webmaster tools for your website project, in addition to free web space
3. 000webhost
4. ByteHost free forum, free tech support, MySQL databases & PHP support
5. 50Webs

These are just some of the great free hosting providers that will provide you the disk space you need to easily start your own website and be able to display advertisements to make money (I will talk about this later). If you are a newbie, you can be using free hosting sites to learn how websites work before starting your very own serious website.

2. Choose a Web Template
As each day passes by, technology makes life easier. Gone are the days that you must master a lot of codes before you can design a website. Today, there are lots of already designed websites out there. All you need to do is just to apply some changes to them and your website will be ready within a few minutes. We call such ready-made websites WEB TEMPLATES and if they are blogs, they are known as BLOG TEMPLATES.

These templates are what some hungry marketers sell for some people, making series of hype like CREATE YOUR WEBSITE IN 3 MINUTES AND MAKE $1000 WITH IT WITHIN 24 HOURS etc...Wonders shall never end...loads of such hypes out there. Just shine your eyes!

There are lots of free web templates you can use on the internet, though you must still posses some web-design skills for you to be able to edit them BUT THERE IS JUST NO BIG DEAL IN WEB DESIGN. The big deal is in web development (I will talk about this later). So, FEAR NOT.

Choosing a web template can be rather hard. When deciding which best fits your website, you must already have an idea of what you want your website to be about, because if you made a site dedicated to computers, and your web template is based on animals design, would that really make sense to you?

Most of the web hosts provide free templates. After signing up with any of the web hosts, login into your account, look around and you should be able to see a link pointing to WEB TEMPLATES. Follow the link and choose the template you want, edit it and within a few minutes your website will be ready for the whole world to see.

If you are in need of free web templates you can download to your PC, go to Google and inside the search box, type "free web templates" and filter through the results to get what you want.

Below are some other free sources that give away free templates for you to use for the respective platforms, free of charge.
Blogger Template Sources:

1. bTemplates.com
2. eBlogTemplates.com
3. BlogSkin.com

Joomla Template Sources:

1. JoomlaTP.com
2. BestofJoomla.com
3. SiteGround.com

If you are a blogspot blogger, you can check out MY BLOGGING TRICKS ARTICLES.

3. Build Your Website

After setting up your website with your hosting provider and have chosen the template of your choice, you can then simply add content to your website. Content is the most important key to building up a good website or blog that can both provide users the information they are looking for and at the same time make you money.

Without content, your site is of no value to anyone and I doubt if you will be able to make a dime with it. If you are running a blog, be sure that the topic you are writing about is something you will always love writing on. Adding some great stuffs, such as widgets and tools to your websites are great in terms of adding more value to your website. The more complete your site looks, the more valuable it becomes. Bravenet offers some free webmaster tools you will like. Check it out! If you are running a blogspot blog, blogger is already loaded with loads of widgets to choose from. Just feel free to explore.

There are many tools you can use to build your website. I started designing websites with Microsoft Frontpage, though I now use Dreamweaver for most of my projects. You can easily get Microsoft Frontpage from any computer store around you. With it, you will be able to easily edit your website, add content to it and also upload it to the internet.

Once you have added some valuable content to your website, move on to the next step. Make sure it is of great quality because your content will determine whether or not visitors will come back to your website.

4. Start Promoting Your Website

Without people visiting your web site, your site will be like a burial ground. Please, make sure you already have some good contents on your site before ever thinking of promoting it. If you tell me about your website and decided to check, only to find out that it is nothing, other than a dessert ,do you think I will ever come back to the website again? This is a big mistake a lot of newbies make and are still making....

With the way you are enjoying this article now, I am very sure you will love to come back and read this blog again another day, isn't it?... I can see you nodding your head now...saying YES, I WILL. Smiles** I hope you can grab the gist. LOAD YOUR SITE/BLOG WITH CONTENTS FIRST BEFORE EVER THINKING OF PROMOTING IT.

In webmaster language, getting people to visit and read your website simple means getting WEB TRAFFIC to your site. There are many ways you can drive traffic to your website free of charge (I will be talking extensively on this later).

Below is a list of few great sources of online traffic.

1. Social Networks eg Facebook, Myspace, Twitter
2. Forums eg Nairaland, Warrior Forum etc
3. Commenting
4. Search Engines

I have been using the free sources to promote my blogs and websites and they have been working for me. I believe you can see some of the statistics of this blog on the sidebar.

Please, shine your eyes before you waste your money on those traffic exchangers or sites that will promise to give your site traffic after paying some money. Most of the time the traffic is of little worth and the exchanges is just a time waster. BEWARE!

5. Monetize Your Website

This is where the money comes rolling in. Once you have set up your website with good content and HAVE ATTRACTED A LOT OF READERS, you will be able to easily make money from the website. Take it or leave it, if you have thousands of good articles on your blog or website and no one knows about it , you might not make a cent with the website. This is what forces some bloggers to be engaging in CLICK FRAUDS, clicking on their adsense ads by themselves all just to make money, since no one is coming to their blog to click for them. In the long run, they get caught by Google and Google ban them, loosing whatever tey might have earned. NEVER TRY TO CLICK ON YOUR ADS.

Load your website with good contents, PROMOTE IT OVER AND OVER. With time, you will start having loyal readers and along the line, you will be making money out of them while they too will be benefiting from things they are getting from your website. Readers get valuable information. Writers get a bit of income. THIS IS THE SECRET BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF MY BLOG, SO FAR.

You can make money from your website or blog through:

1. advertising for people
2. affiliate links
3. sales of products eg ebooks.
4. leads
5. Google ads placement etc

These are just a tip of the iceberg. There are many ways you can make money with your website. All websites have different methods that work best for their own particular website. You just have to find out which works best for your site on your own to maximize it’s true potential income to make money.

Google+ Social Network a Facebook alternative possibly

Google has announced its latest effort at social media, its best so far. The Social network site, called Google+, borrows a few ideas from the world champion in social media, Facebook, but also introduced some new and better ideas that could make it a good alternative to Facebook.

Google+ is available to a limited number of users on an invite-only basis as Google field tests the service. So far, user reviews from Google+ invitees have been positive, with most commending how it handles privacy and the control it gives users to select who they share particular contents with.

While you wait for Google+ to go public, here is a brief overview of the idea.

Google+ allows you add your network into groups called Circles and enables you share content easily with specific circles or group of circles. Google+ has pre-labeled circles for friends, family, and acquaintances, but also allows you to add your own labels.

When sharing on Google+, you select which circles you want to share the content with. This gives you control over who sees your post. For example, if you do not want your boss or family member to see the content you are about to share, just make sure you do not share it with the circles they belong to. So, you can keep your privacy, while still having your family and boss as friends, mimicking our real life relationships. Google+ makes adding friends to circles having easy with drag and drop.

Google+ features a video chat area called Hangouts. You can create a Hangout or join one created by a friend. Up to 10 people can join a Google+ Hangout. To chat with text, you have to use another Google+ feature called Huddle, which is similar to Hangouts, but for text chat.

Google+ also has a news feed, called a Stream. When posting on your Google+ Stream, you select which Circles see the particular post (all circles or specific circles). Each friend will see only what the Circle he/she belongs to is allowed to see when he/she views your Google+ Stream.

Like on Facebook friends can comment on or endorse your Google+ Streams. However, while Facebook uses the Like button for endorsement, Google+ will be using what is called the +1 button. You can see a +1 button on this post opposite the Facebook like button.

Search is also integrated into Google+ in a feature called Sparks. Sparks when prompted will automatically search for contents relevant to your interests from all over the web and deliver them to you, something Facebook still can’t do. You can then share such content with your Circles.

Google has also announced a Google+ mobile app for Android, which comes with all the Google+ features for mobile.

No doubt, Google+ is a strong challenge to the dominance of Facebook, but the question is whether Google is too late to the social media game?

How to Find Different Types of Nursing Programmes Abroad

Nursing Programme Abroad:There were numerous nursing programs that were introduced by the United States Health department soon after the year 2001 owing to grim situation of learned and equipped people in the profession of nursing.

Nursing is a profession which requires compassion and a good knowledge of the field. Though being a profession of compassion and care, there has always been a lack of enthusiasm and funding which could even help interested student to study.

There are three different types of nursing programs which are offered at different levels. There are undergraduate programs, graduate programs and special programs for nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners are those people who already have been working in the medical profession.
Some of the very prominent colleges and universities in the United States of America which upheld the mission of producing more educated and aware nurses were American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), Upstate Medical University in New York and University of Michigan.

The goals of the big step taken in 2001 were to provide funding and scholarships to candidates who are interested in studying the field, providing new facilities, for providing more specialized training through advanced administration and faculty. The United States wanted to bring up the profession which was not looked up my most of the people who were looking forward to build a career in the medical field. It was very important to produce more experienced and medically aware nurses to serve people. In 2001, this came as a coveted opportunity for disadvantaged and minority group students.

Amongst the most famous nursing programs in United States were federal Nursing scholarships, scholarships offered by organizations and nursing associations in the country, scholarships funded by the state and scholarships funded by the colleges and the universities. Different scholarship nursing programs follow different standards of eligibility. Federal Nursing

Scholarships are funded by health and human service department of United States. Graduates and undergraduates can apply for it but they must have been accredited to some nursing programs. Apart from the scholarship amount, students also get a stipend amount of $1500 and after the program is over the student will have to serve health institution for a period of two years as per the guidelines.

The nursing programs offered by organizations and nursing associations of the country take the present and future responsibility of the candidates funding of education and other costs of living. Most of these organizations are not driven by profit and are driven by the motivation for community service.

There are specialized nursing associations which provide training in oncology, ortho science and neuroscience. Today students have opportunities galore to choose from. Maryland's education commission and Indiana's student commission are among the famous state funded schools that offer various nursing programs. Both graduate and undergraduate candidates having a GPA of 3 or more can apply. Colleges and universities started offering nursing programs as an initiative of health and human service Department.
